Pain is not only an unpleasant emotional and physical experience, but also a defense mechanism which warns of possible problems in functioning of the human body. There are two types of pain most commonly classified: acute and chronic. Each of them is divided into subtypes: mild, moderate and severe pain. There is a special scale determining pain intensity. Considering that there are many types and subtypes of pain, pharmaceutical manufacturers develop various medicinal products which are used by sick persons depending on the pain intensity and localization.
Medications for relieving a pain syndrome are traditionally divided into two categories: opioid and non-opioid analgesics. Opioid analgesics are used to relieve severe pain, they produce psychological and physical dependence. For mild and moderate intensity pain non-opioid analgesics and combinations thereof are used.
