Alcohol intoxication (popularly: hangover) is an acute poisoning with alcohol and its disintegration products, accompanied by the following symptoms: headache, sickliness, dizziness, dry mouth.
Under the influence of alcohol and acetic aldehyde (ethanol disintegration product) cell membranes are damaged, biochemical reactions in all organs and tissues are disturbed, cells of cerebral cortex die. Depending on the level of alcohol intoxication, different methods of treatment are used: in the event of severe alcohol intoxication intravenous solutions for disintoxication are used with an entire complex of various medicinal substances. Where there is a moderate and mild intoxication, sorbents (products aimed at binding and excretion of alcohol toxins), glucose (for restoration of the blood sugar level) and large amounts of water for restoring fluid balance in the human body are used.
