Dexamethasone-Darnitsa is a synthetic adrenal hormone (corticosteroid) with a glucocorticoid action. It exerts anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive effects and also influences the energy metabolism, glucose metabolism, and (via negative feedback) the secretion of hypothalamic releasing factor and pituitary trophic hormone.

Dexamethasone is used intravenously or intramuscularly in emergency situations and if oral administration is impossible.

The drug can be used in adults and children from birth.

It is used intravenously (as injection or infusion), intramuscularly, or locally by intra-articular injection or injection into an injured area of the skin or into a soft tissue infiltrate. Use 0.9% sodium chloride solution or 5% glucose solution as a diluent for intravenous infusion.

When used in infants, especially preterm ones, solutions intended for intravenous administration or further drug dilution should not contain any preservatives.

When mixing the drug with a diluent for infusion, the aseptics rules should be followed. The mixture should be used within 24 hours, as solutions for infusion usually do not contain any preservatives.

Parenteral drugs should be examined visually for the presence of foreign particles and color changes before every administration.

The dose of the drug should be determined on an individual basis, considering the patient's disease, predicted treatment duration, tolerability of glucocorticosteroids, and response of the body.
