Antihistamine. Blocks Н1 histamine receptors eliminating the effects of histamine: reduces or prevents smooth muscle spasms of blood vessels, intestine, bronchi and bronchioles, increased capillary permeability, tissue oedema, itching, and hyperaemia.
Treatment of allergic reactions: urticaria, allergic rhinitis, angioneurotic oedema, serum sickness, contact dermatitis, erythema multiforme, eczema, pruritis, haemorrhagic vasculitis (capillary toxicosis), vasomotor rhinitis, respiratory allergy, acute iridocyclitis.
Allergic eye diseases (conjunctivitis).
For the prevention and treatment of allergic complications, with the aim of reducing the adverse effects of medicines (antibiotics, enzymes), in blood or blood substitute transfusions.
Chorea, motion sickness, Ménière's disease.
As a sedative-hypnotic drug in neurosis, neurasthenia, insomnia.
Adult patients should be prescribed ½-1 tablet (25-50 mg diphenhydramine hydrochloride) 1-3 times per day.
For preventing motion sickness, ½-1 tablet should be taken 30-60 minutes before the trip, as a sedative-hypnotic drug – 1 tablet at bedtime.
For adults, the maximum single dose is 2 tablets (100 mg diphenhydramine hydrochloride), the maximum daily dose is 5 tablets (250 mg diphenhydramine hydrochloride).
For children aged 6-12 years, a single dose of ½ tablet (25 mg diphenhydramine hydrochloride) should be prescribed.
The duration of treatment is determined individually by the physician, depending on the nature of the disease (an average of 10-15 days).
