Oxymetazoline is the direct-acting sympathomimetic amine. It influences α-adrenergic receptors of blood vessels of nasal mucosa causing vessel constriction and removing nasal congestion. Oxymetazoline constricts vessels in the application site, decreases congestion of nasal mucosa and upper air passages. Removal of nasal congestion facilitates the restoration of aeration of accessory sinuses of the nose, middle ear cavity, preventing the development of bacterial exacerbations. Oxymetazoline has antiviral, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory and anti-oxidant action. Due to this combined mechanism of action, faster and more efficient removal of nasal congestion caused by acute rhinitis has been proved. The effect of the medicinal product lasts up to 12 hours.
Acute respiratory diseases accompanied by nasal stuffiness.
To restore drainage and nasal breathing in diseases of accessory sinuses of the nose, eustachitis.
To remove congestion prior to diagnostic manipulations in nasal passages.
One should avoid long-term use and overdose of the medicinal product. Long-term use of the decongestive nasal preparation may result in weakening of its effect. Abuse of this medication may cause atrophic rhinitis, atrophy of mucous membrane and reactive hyperemia with rebound nasal congestion. Patients with chronic rhinitis require special supervision. Doses exceeding those recommended may only be used under medical supervision.
