Pharmaceutical Companies Among the Most Innovative in the World - Shymkiv

19 March 2021

The COVID-19 pandemic gave a serious impetus to the innovative development of pharmaceutical companies and therefore already a year later they entered the world rankings of the most innovative companies in the world. This was stated by Dmytro Shymkiv, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Darnitsa Group, at the “BUSINESS THINKERS FORUM: Leadership. Strategies. Principles”.

He emphasized that the challenges associated with COVID-19 faced by all countries have prompted the pharmaceutical industry to look for and develop creative solutions. As an example, he named Moderna, which uses mRNA technology, genome sequencing for the design and manufacture of vaccines.

“According to international rankings, it is the pharmaceutical industry that is among the most innovative companies in the world - Moderna, Pfizer, Novavax, Jonson & Jonson. The world has created a vaccine against COVID-19 in less than a year! Of course, we understand that clinical trials of all vaccines still continue, but state-of-the-art technologies used by pharmaceutical companies make it possible to do what we could only dream of a few years ago. If we talk about Darnitsa, for us the process of innovation is constant. It continues in the company non-stop and covers employees, consumers - patients, includes development and production, since Darnitsa is the largest manufacturer in Ukraine in terms of volume of manufactured products,” Shymkiv noted.

He also added that Ukrainian pharmaceutical companies are up to global manufacturers in terms of the quality of drugs and technologies. At the same time, Ukrainians, according to Shymkiv, often underestimate the domestic product.

“The Ukrainian pharmaceutical sector has been operating in international markets for a long time and understands that the requirements set, in particular, by European markets, are quite rigorous. And the requirements for the Ukrainian pharmaceutical production are similar to the requirements applicable in the European Union. Europeans are pleasantly surprised when they see the process of production and quality of medicines in Ukraine. And Ukrainians often underestimate their own resources and infrastructure,” Shymkiv emphasized.

He emphasized that thanks to the powerful and well-organized production, Ukrainians, unlike European countries, had not felt the lack of drugs during the lockdown.
