The Pharmaceutical Firm “Darnitsa” joined the largest nature protection initiative in the world, the Earth Hour, organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature. In such a way the largest national manufacturer of medicinal products in Ukraine supports the necessity of reduction of resource usage and impact on the climate.
On March 30 at 8:30 p.m., the outdoor illumination of company’s territory and the electric power supply which is not essential were switched off. Thus, the company joined the united movement in order to attract people’s attention to the planet’s problems.
This gesture is symbolic, unlike the actions taken by the Pharmaceutical Firm “Darnitsa” every day for the economical use of the natural resources and preservation of the environment. Production processes at “Darnitsa” function taking into account the necessity of the thrifty use of resources – water, electric power and gas. The project of gradual substitution of all fluorescent lamps for LED-lamps is implemented at the company. “Darnitsa” controls emissions into the atmosphere, which do not exceed the permissible rates, and takes preventive actions. Administrative premises function according to the principles of the “green office”, while the production facilities are equipped with movement sensors for switching on the illumination, what reduces the consumption of electric power substantially.
“Darnitsa” has separate waste collection and waste sorting both at the production facilities and at office premises. Due to sorting such waste products as ferrous metals scrap, glass scrap, remnants of packaging materials, polymers and waste paper do not go to landfill sites and do not poison the environment. In 2018, almost 74% of all the company’s waste was transferred for recycling, which is 372 tons; as compared with the year 2017, this figure has increased by 5%. Altogether, over two years, nearly 650 tons of waste was transferred for recycling, which amount is equal to the area of three football fields.
Mariia Tatarchuk, Head of the Sanitary and Ecological Laboratory of “Pharmaceutical Firm “Darnitsa” PrJSC:
“Preservation of the environment is the responsibility of each of us and it depends on our actions what kind of planet we will leave to the descendants. In order to face the threat of irreversible climate change, each of us must take real steps and change one’s habits every day. Our company is a worthy example to follow as an environmentally responsible manufacturer, and I call to unite around initiatives to reduce environmental impacts.”
