"Darnitsa" contributed exhibits to the new exhibition of the Kyiv City History Museum

In April, the Kyiv City History Museum presented a unique exhibition project "History in Glass". The exhibition is open for visitors until July 23. "History in glass" is exploring four topics: leisure, health, everyday life and beauty.

The theme “Health” is represented by pharmacy containers and bottles for preparation and packaging of medicines. The pharmaceutical company “Darnitsa”, which has more than 90 years of history, contributed to the formation of this setting. The company’s production is located in Kyiv.

“The first pharmacies appeared on the territory of Kyiv in 1715, and glass was mainly used for pharmacy containers, which is reflected in the variety of bottles and vials. In a pharmacy at that time, you could buy not only medicines, but also perfumes and mineral water,” noted the curator of the exhibition, a leading researcher of the museum Alina Sushko.

In the leisure topic one can view what the 19th-century pubs and 17th-century inns were like - the key places for exchanging news and concluding contracts. At the same time, the beauty topic in the exposition is represented by a number of containers for perfumes, in particular, from French companies of the 19th century like “Brokar” and “Halle”.

“Glass is a strong and at the same time fragile material, and products made of it can be both simple and ordinary, and real masterpieces, works of art. Without a doubt, the skillful and painstaking work of the Museum’s curators and team will allow us to see unknown fragments of our history through the glass,” says Diana Popova, general director of the Kyiv City History Museum.
